#JDHorizons

Cultivating a Culture of Curiosity

We are pleased to announce the 2019 dates for our coveted Janders Dean Legal Horizons Conference series. The famous gatherings of our amazing client community and exclusive friends from across the industry will be taking place in London on 21 June 2019, and in Sydney on 24-25 July 2019.

Our Sydney experience will take place in the shadows of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at Pier One. Unlike any event series in legal – and often the early launch pad for ideas, speakers, and industry trends – Janders Dean events are exclusively for those who we all know are senior decision makers, influencers, and those with the power to truly transform the industry.

Our goals for #JDHorizons in 2019 remain the same as always – we are deliberately not a trade show, we are deliberately not wanting to be the biggest event from an attendee or sponsorship perspective, we are deliberately not a #LegalTech event, and we deliberately avoid games and gimmicks designed to simply temporarily turn heads – instead, we aim to bring the very best speakers and the very best content to our delegate community. You will never see the #SameOldSameOld at #JDHorizons. We aim to unapologetically set the tone and cement the trends for the years ahead.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our family of disruptors and fire starters. Let’s do this.

The Janders Dean Team

Speakers Announced

Speakers you won’t hear anywhere else until after they’ve spoken at #JDHorizons…

Once again we have assembled an all-star line-up of speakers from inside and outside legal to inspire and motivate our delegates. Below is a list of our Sydney cohort of speakers, who will be joining the exclusive #JDHorizons speaking faculty.

Legal Design Jam Workshop

In parallel to each #JDHorizons conference since 2015, Janders Dean has been global thought leaders and first-movers with our co-hosted legal design jams. From bringing methods such as Lego Serious Play and Service Design to the legal industry before it became commonplace, to our exploration of comic contracts and data visualisation – these mixed immersive workshops are a unique opportunity for a single sponsor to capture the attention of 30 VIP participants from up to 15 firms and in-house legal teams for the entire day. Running in parallel to the main conference, this is an intense day of fun, networking, and creative thinking which enables participants to embrace that culture of curiosity so desperately chased by firms worldwide.

At #JDHorizons in Sydney during 2019, we will be exploring the #DeathOfDirectories concept – we will explore the emergence of social selling in the professional services industry and seek to bust the marketing myths that have kept the archaic law firm and lawyer directories alive for so long. During this jam, we will explore the alternative approaches to building trust and relationships.

Following the successful launches in London, New York and Chicago, we are delighted to help bring this network to the APAC region on Thursday 25th July 2019.

The global network of women leaders who are disrupting, breaking the mould and challenging the norm in the world of law, has grown explosively in since its start in March, with now over 1250 law breakers spread across the globe.

She Breaks the Law was founded by Christie Guimond (White & Case), Nicky Leijtens (NautaDutilh) and Priya Lele (Herbert Smith Freehills) to provide a platform for women leaders to connect with like-minded women, to share experiences and stories with others, to develop themselves and others and to create ideas with women from all over the world. The members of She Breaks the Law come from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines, across the ecosystem: in-house, law firms, law companies, academics, science, government, legal tech, consulting and alternative legal service businesses.

The launch event will be kindly hosted by long-time supporters and legal industry stalwarts Janders Dean, and will take place in the evening on 25 July.

Click through to see full agenda including the She Breaks the Law launch.

The event will provide the community of law breakers with the opportunity to share their stories and to connect, through networking circles around topics such as access to justice, legal design, legal operations, KM, workplace flexibility, legal tech and personal branding, led by amazing experts such as Stephanie Abbott, Nicole Bradick, Peter Campbell, Kate Fazio, Lee Hodge, Anna Lozynski, Terri Mottershead, Sara Rayment, Katherine Thomas and Rosalie Tordoi

Sustainability

We love our gatherings, we do. However we’re getting frustrated by the increasing amount of waste that is created during our events. It’s not cool, and we’re not cool with it. On the positive side, we’re not alone in thinking about this, and wanting to make a change.

At a recent caffeine fuelled chill-out and collaborate session with the LegalGeek gang in London, we collectively hit on this as something that we could (and should) both do better at. So, let’s do this.

Starting now, the Janders Dean gang have teamed up with LegalGeek to work to reduce the waste generated at our respective events, and to find ways to be more environmentally friendly. We are both aiming to become carbon neutral over time, and we’ll be sharing lessons and ideas with each other so as to make this happen as quickly as possible.
This won’t be easy, and we’ll make some mistakes. We’re open to ideas from our collective communities as to how to make these changes, and you’ll see us both start to report our progress and share our ideas as to how you too can make a difference.
We both have the power to make changes in the way we plan and execute our events, and we both have a responsibility to take a stance and show continued leadership in this area.

You can let us know what you think by getting behind the campaign on social media, using the hashtags:

#GoGreenGeek#GoGreenDean

Feel free to email us your ideas and any feedback to events@jandersdean and hello@legalgeek.co
